Introduction

CIC is a subsidiary company of Capital Refractories Limited, established in 2005. CIC specialises in manufacturing injected ceramic cores for the investment casting industry. At the beginning of 2009, CIC was certified to the AS9100 aerospace quality management standard. AS 9100 is the first aerospace global set of standards that meets the requirements of aerospace companies worldwide which was established with the purpose of achieving significant improvements in quality and reductions in cost throughout the value stream. CIC has been approved for manufacture by many of the leading organisations in the industry including end users GE, Alstom, Siemens and Ansaldo. Around 80% of CIC's production is components for Industrial Gas Turbine castings; CIC also produces cores for aerospace castings, medical and hardware. CIC has proven its capability by successfully injection moulding some of the largest and most complex blades and vanes.

CIC provides:-

  • Ceramic cores suitable for casting by Equiax, Directional Solidification and Single Crystal processes.
  • Nickel, chrome & cobalt based, stainless steels, high temperature, aluminium.
  • Exceptionally stable core bodies with very high tolerance.
  • Dimensional control achieved through advanced green core reforming techniques.
  • Core setters can be used for dimensional control if required.
  • Range of shrinkages to suit customers’ existing tooling.

Key aspects of the last 12 months:-

  • Capacity has been more than doubled with expansion into additional covered area and investment in new equipment including mixers, kilns, presses, CMM and CNC.
  • Over 60 new tools commissioned or transferred.
  • Awarded New Supplier of the Year by Doncasters Deritend.

 

CIC's parent company, Capital Refractories Limited (CRL), is one of the largest independent refractory and industrial ceramics companies in the UK. CRL has been manufacturing, supplying and installing high quality refractory ceramic and refractory products to metal melters for over 50 years. Capital provides a wide range of bespoke ceramic and refractory products such as iso-pressed and cast crucibles for investment casters, along with nozzles, tubes and ladles as well as dry rammed induction furnace linings to aerospace, medical, automotive and other industries.

CIC is committed to offering customers the very highest quality ceramic core products with the excellent onsite support and customer service for which Capital is renowned. CIC prides itself on building up relationships with customers, working alongside them to achieve their specific and often complex requirements. blade

Amongst other products, we manufacture 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th stage blades and vanes for end-users Siemens, Alstom, GE and Ansaldo. Our direct customers include PCC Group, Doncasters Group, Esco Group, EMA, Wood Group, Precicast, Microsteel and Turbine Castings.

CIC's world class facilities (over 2,000 sqm) incorporate die storage, QC laboratory, mixing, injection, firing, inspection, finishing, CMM, coating, strengthening, wax preparation, packing and shipping. CIC currently employs 50 staff with additional QA, QC, technical, site engineering, commercial and administrative support from Capital's international headquarters.
